About  Power Yoga

In my classes I aim to teach people to learn a new, healthier way of living, way of thinking and way of being in the world, becoming super fit and healthy in both body and mind. Power yoga can benefit everyone whether they are just starting a fitness regime or wishing to improve upon an existing fitness routine.

Power Yoga is designed to challenge you and allow you to become stronger in both body and mind, to relax into who you are, expand your boundaries and find your limits.  Power Yoga will help you become more centred and be able to deal better with life events.

Power Yoga is a state of mind.  Stilling the mind is very challenging, during yoga we learn to think and become more aware of our breath, ailment, posture and accomplishing a certain pose instead of thinking of distractions, thoughts and any stresses, as you open your body and mind with yoga postures and breathing you become receptive to the wonderful experience of inner stillness.

If you are looking for an all over body workout, to become stronger, fitter, healthier, more balanced, more flexible, a more happier and energised person then Power Yoga is for you!

Some of the many benefits of all the types of Power Yoga can be felt almost immediately and these include:

  • Improved circulation

  • Reduced stress levels

  • An aid to detoxification

  • Relief from muscle tension

  • Improved flexibility, strength and stamina

  • Improved posture

  • Improved spinal health

  • Strengthened and lubricated joints

  • Boosted the immune system

  • Improved skin tone and complexion

  • Increased lung capacity

  • Improved digestion

  • Increase in energy

  • Improved sleep patterns

  • Relief from anxiety and depression

Yoga has been used to help heal many health concerns, a few of which are listed here.

Anxiety - conscious breathing helps shift your thoughts away from your concerns and brings you right back to the present moment.

Arthritis - helps to loosen and lubricate the joints

Asthma - many people have used yoga to cure their asthma.  Back bends are useful as they lift and open the chest encouraging fuller breathing

Back pain -  through yoga we will strengthen the core which will help support and protect the back. Gentle back bends and twists will encourage blood flow and nutrients to the spine.

Cancer - yoga can help us to adapt to a more natural and healthy approach to our lives, sticking to a non chemical, low stress lifestyle and choosing a yoga practice that nurtures you to bring a healthy body and mind.

Confidence building - standing and balancing postures give us confidence in standing our ground and meditation allows us to get to know ourselves.

Constipation - forward folds and twists will help to massage and compress the digestive organs and encourage elimination.

Diabetes - twists and back bends tone the pancreas and supports the central nervous system
Hormonal imbalance - Healthy menstruation depends on proper functioning of endocrine glands, e.g., pituitary, thyroid, adrenals and ovaries together with organs such as liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, intestines and reproductive organs.  Yoga postures improve circulation, relieve pelvic congestion, massage and tone different organs and stimulate ovaries.  Psychological tension is reduced and a person develops a positive mental attitude.  Forward bends, cobra, locust and boat improve circulation and massage the lower abdominal area.  The squatting pose strengthens pubic muscles and pelvic floor. Spinal twists improve circulation and massage the liver and spleen.  All postures are good and daily yoga practice will re-establish regular menstrual cycles.

Hypertension - exercise dilates the blood vessels, which in turn lowers the blood pressure

Immune support - yoga and exercise boosts the immune system by stimulating all the internal organs such as the kidneys, liver, spleen, the central nervous system and the thymus gland.

Indigestion - yoga is best practised on an empty stomach so only eat lightly 2-3 hours before as twists and forward folds, etc tone the digestive system and organs.

Insomnia - fully working both body and mind will allow both to settle in to deep rest more easily. Ensure to completely focus on the practice without distractions entering our mind, this will teach our mind to switch off completely and bring focus.

Obesity - yoga helps burn energy with calories and also helps the body to normalise a healthy body weight and speeds up the metabolism therefore burning more calories

Posture - yoga is fantastic for correcting bad posture by helping to strengthen the alignment of our body

Varicose veins - by boosting the body's circulation yoga will help prevent future varicose veins and also help to decrease the symptoms of existing ones.
